Two respected photographers have found themselves under surveillance while waiting to cover a protest in Brighton.

Photojournalist Marc Vallée and another photographer were filmed by the police ‘Forward Intelligence Team’ (FIT) while waiting in their car for the protest to start. Media workers, but especially photographers have been claiming they are being targeted by the FIT team for some months now mainly during protest or other public order events, which prompted the National Union of Journalists to hold its own protest outside New Scotland Yard over press freedom and intimidation of photographers.

Police apparently started to film them from across the road then approached them, the two showed the police their press credentials, yet the police continued to film and ask questions.

The two were later denied permission to photograph protesters arriving at the train station and claim they were assaulted by the police, while another photojournalist was bitten by a police dog

More information is on Marc Vallée’s Blog and Jonathan Warren’s website
