Over the last few months I have stayed at Dale Farm, the largest traveller site in the UK where 80 families (mostly related to each other) are facing eviction by Basildon council.

This week there has been several issues that have caused some set backs: the Queens Head has closed, which for a pub is a concern as I have not had chance to photograph in there as yet. The other a lot more worrying and that is the issue of photographing children!

As part of his work on the effects of foreclosures in America, Bruce Gilden recently traveled to Detroit, Michigan. What he found was a desolate landscape where the subprime mortgage crisis is the latest blow hitting the “troubled city” already on its way to collapse and insurrection.

Magnum Photographers to hold Street Photography Workshop in Derby

Magnum Photos is organising a “five-day intensive, practice-oriented workshop focusing specifically on the popular theme of street photography,” to coincide with the Format11 International Photography Festival in Derby, a biennial of contemporary photography.

Led by Magnum street photographers Bruce Gilden, Richard Kalvar and Chris Steele-Perkins, the workshop will see successful candidates get the opportunity to shoot, polish and publish their work under the guidance of these experienced practitioners, says Magnum.
The five-day workshop costs £700 +VAT. For more details and to register, visit the Magnum Photos website.
